My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A Beautifully tense mystery filled with mystery, emotion, and the darkness of the human nature.
In the third book of the Dark Iceland Series, BLACKOUT, I was pulled into the world of Ari Thór again. Much like in the past, this novel is packed with murder, grit, and a stirring crime.
What I enjoyed about this time around is how easily fell into rhythm of narrative. It could be because I was greeted with some familiar characters or simply from knowing the author's style. Whatever it was, Jonasson brought what I like to call his signature dark elegance coupled with all the elements of an atmospheric thriller. It was wonderful.
As the author peels back the layers of the crime centering this novel, I became more and more captivated by the story. The tension and the difficulty of case made it even better. BLACKOUT truly showed the underbelly of society and what people are capable of.
Each time I read one of Jonasson's books, I am amazed at the craft and talent the author brings. There is nothing better than settling in with his latest and being introduced to a story which captivates, surprises, and leaves you wanting more. Then, you add on the fact that the writing flows effortlessly from scene to scene causing those fabulous moments of convincing yourself you are going to stop after one more chapter.
For so many reasons, I highly recommend BLACKOUT as well as the Dark Iceland series. Start with book one and you will not be able to turn back. I cannot wait for the next installment. January 2019 cannot come soon enough.

A huge bestseller in England, France, and Australia, the third book in the Dark Iceland series from a spectacular new crime writer.
Hailed for combining the darkness of Nordic Noir with classic mystery writing in the tradition of Agatha Christie, author Ragnar Jonasson’s books are haunting, atmospheric, and complex. Blackout, the latest Ari Thór thriller, delivers another dark mystery that is chillingly stunning with its complexity and fluidity.
On the shores of a tranquil fjord in Northern Iceland, a man is brutally beaten to death on a bright summer's night. As the 24-hour light of the arctic summer is transformed into darkness by an ash cloud from a recent volcanic eruption, a young reporter leaves Reykajvik to investigate on her own, unaware that an innocent person's life hangs in the balance. Ari Thor Arason and his colleagues on the tiny police force in Siglufjordur struggle with an increasingly perplexing case, while their own serious personal problems push them to the limit. What secrets does the dead man harbour, and what is the young reporter hiding? As silent, unspoken horrors from the past threaten them all, and the darkness deepens, it's a race against time to find the killer before someone else dies.
