My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A tense thriller that will give you an unlikeable narrator with no redeeming qualities what so ever.
BEST DAY EVER has is one of those books that pulled me in with the unrepentant and despicable actions of the narrator. For a brief period of time, I thought that maybe there would be a twist within Paul’s character, but…nope…he is just a creepy and horrible human being. I can say this without spoiling any of the story for you because after the first several chapters, you will want to smack Paul just as I did.
The part of the book that I really enjoyed was the slow unveiling of just how disturbed Paul actually was. I feel that even though there were moments I wanted more backstory or more of a twist in a particular situation, the author did a good job of being true to her characters. It is these characters’ thoughts and interactions, mainly Paul and Mia, which drive the tension and the suspense within the book. This is not a high action thriller or a twist around every corner suspense. It is a slow trickle of angst and devilish actions that oozes from words within this book. I liked it and was a nice departure from some of the other stories that I have been reading.
And I don’t know…but I have a feeling that Paul may show up again in another book. I am not saying that I know this for sure, but you never know with #CreepyPaul.

In the bestselling, page-turning vein of The Couple Next Door and The Dinner, Kaira Rouda weaves a gripping, tautly suspenseful tale of deception and betrayal dark enough to destroy a marriage…or a life.
“I glance at my wife as she climbs into the passenger seat, and I am bursting with confidence. Today will be everything I’ve promised her…and more…”
Paul Strom has the perfect life: a glittering career as an advertising executive, a beautiful wife, two healthy boys and a big house in a wealthy suburb. And he’s the perfect husband: breadwinner, protector, provider. That’s why he’s planned a romantic weekend for his wife, Mia, at their lake house, just the two of them. And he’s promised today will be the best day ever.
But as Paul and Mia drive out of the city and toward the countryside, a spike of tension begins to wedge itself between them and doubts start to arise. How much do they trust each other? And how perfect is their marriage, or any marriage, really?
Forcing us to ask ourselves just how well we know those who are closest to us, Best Day Ever crackles with dark energy, spinning ever tighter toward its shocking conclusion.
