THE DEVIL CREPT IN by Ania Ahlborn

I will start by saying that I am not a huge horror book reader. However, from page one Ania Ahlborn’s THE DEVIL CREPT IN pulled me in and did not let go until the last page. There is an intense creepy and sinister thread throughout the whole book which actually gave me chills while I was reading it. Yet, what completely ensnared me was the characters, their relationships, and their interactions. The dance that all of them play around each other and the intertwining of the past with the present increases the suspense tenfold.
Ahlborn’s writing is darkly elegant in a way that allows the events of the story to flow from one to the next. There is not one moment in this book that doesn’t relate to the next and it propels the story forward so that you will not want to put the book down. What a read!

About the Book:
An unforgettable horror novel from bestselling sensation Ania Ahlborn—hailed as a writer of “some of the most promising horror I’ve encountered in years” (New York Times bestselling author Seanan McGuire)—in which a small-town boy investigates the mysterious disappearance of his cousin and uncovers a terrifying secret kept hidden for years.
Young Jude Brighton has been missing for three days, and while the search for him is in full swing in the small town of Deer Valley, Oregon, the locals are starting to lose hope. They’re well aware that the first forty-eight hours are critical and after that, the odds usually point to a worst-case scenario. And despite Stevie Clark’s youth, he knows that, too; he’s seen the cop shows. He knows what each ticking moment may mean for Jude, his cousin and best friend.
That, and there was that boy, Max Larsen...the one from years ago, found dead after also disappearing under mysterious circumstances. And then there were the animals: pets gone missing out of yards. For years, the residents of Deer Valley have murmured about these unsolved crimes…and that a killer may still be lurking around their quiet town. Now, fear is reborn—and for Stevie, who is determined to find out what really happened to Jude, the awful truth may be too horrifying to imagine.
About the Author: Born in Ciechanow Poland, Ania has always been drawn to the darker, mysterious, and sometimes morbid sides of life. Her earliest childhood memory is of crawling through a hole in the chain link fence that separated her family home from the large wooded cemetery next door. She’d spend hours among the headstones, breaking up bouquets of silk flowers so that everyone had their equal share. Hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ania currently lives in Greenville, South Carolina.
