My Highly Caffeinated Thought: An truly charming account of what is like when one event changes everything in a family. This heartwarming, witty, and timely story will pull you in.
I have so much love for Katy Regan’s LITTLE BIG LOVE. This book has humor, heart, and honesty. By using three separate characters to narrate this story, the reader is gifted with perspectives of a child, a mother, and a father/grandfather. Each of these uniquely depict the many sides of a situation and family relationships.
Okay, there are just too many things about this book that I loved. The writing, the characters, the broaching the issue of obesity as well as bullying, and careful way Reagan dealt with the absence of a father is all amazing. The author used a well crafted story to give us realistic characters struggling with what many deal with every day. The frankness in her words truly resonated with me.
I will say this. Zac is the star of this book for me. Though I loved Mick and Juliet, it was his fresh and sincere voice I looked forward to reading the most. He made me laugh, but at times, he also broke my heart. Again, it is the reality is the narrative which knocks this out of the park for me.
LITTLE BIG LOVE is a story about life, love, and most importantly family. It has that perfect balance of wit, emotion, and truth. A must read.
Reviewer Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Ten-year-old Zac Hutchinson collects facts: octopuses have three hearts, Usain Bolt is the fastest man on earth. But no one will tell him the one thing he wants to know most: who his father is and where he went.
When Zac's mother, Juliet, inadvertently admits that his dad is the only man she's ever loved, Zac decides he is going to find him and deliver his mom the happily ever after she deserves.
But Liam Jones left for a reason, and as Zac searches for clues of his father, Juliet begins to rebuild what shattered on the day that was at once the happiest and most heartbreaking of her life.
Told through the eyes of Zac, Juliet, and grandfather Mick, Little Big Love is a layered, heartfelt, utterly satisfying story about family, love, and the secrets that can define who we are.
