My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A clever, gritty, dark, and twisty thriller.
THE LEGACY is the first book in a new series from one of my favorite authors, Yrsa Sigurdardottir. Even though I loved the author's previous novels, this story really kicked it up a notch. The intricately developed mystery coupled with the featured characters of Freyja and Huldar completely pulled me in.
Sigurdardottir's ability to create a dark and unidealized world where the murders happen is only made better by glimmer of humanity that comes through in the characters. Don't get me wrong, this is an edge of your seat page turner filled with all the elements of a great crime novel. With that being said, the moments shared with the characters soften some of the harsh edges. This is especially true for the interactions with the victim’s young daughter. To me, this just shows how masterful the author is. By showing all facets of humanity, makes story authentic.
At its core, THE LEGACY is a character driven murder mystery with a heavy concentration on the police investigation. However, once you start to read the book, you will see it is so much more. The writing brings the story to life and allows the reader to become completely immersed in the world in these pages. Warning. It is addictive.

About the Book:
The Legacy is the first installment in a fantastic new series featuring the psychologist Freyja and the police officer Huldar.
The only person who might have the answers to a baffling murder case is the victim’s seven-year-old daughter, found hiding in the room where her mother died. And she’s not talking.
Newly-promoted, out of his depth, detective Huldar turns to Freyja for her expertise with traumatized young people. Freyja, who distrusts the police in general and Huldar in particular, isn’t best pleased. But she’s determined to keep little Margret safe.
It may prove tricky. The killer is leaving them strange clues, but can they crack the code? And if they do, will they be next?
