My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A beautifully written story filled with heart, honesty, and the effect of mental illness on all those involved.

EVERYTHING HERE IS BEAUTIFUL is an eloquent, heartwarming, and witty story. I was not completely sure of what I would expect with this book, but the story of Lucia, Miranda, and all those that enter their lives is one that I will not soon forget.

Book Review for EVERYTHING HERE IS BEAUTIFUL by Mira T. Lee

Lee brings to life a disease that few can truly understand. She shows compassion for the Lucia, but never lets her off the hook for her actions. There on consequences she and her loved ones must face.

This book is nothing short of an authentic and engaging read. It tackles multiple social issues, including immigration and deportation, with grace and reverence. By giving certain characters' a voice, the reader was able to see a side that we might not have been able to understand. The flow of the narrative was effortless just as if I were there living Lucia and Miranda's lives beside them.

EVERYTHING HERE IS BEAUTIFUL is a must read.

Synopsis:

Two Chinese-American sisters—Miranda, the older, responsible one, always her younger sister’s protector; Lucia, the headstrong, unpredictable one, whose impulses are huge and, often, life changing. When Lucia starts hearing voices, it is Miranda who must find a way to reach her sister. Lucia impetuously plows ahead, but the bitter constant is that she is, in fact, mentally ill. Lucia lives life on a grand scale, until, inevitably, she crashes to earth.

Miranda leaves her own self-contained life in Switzerland to rescue her sister again—but only Lucia can decide whether she wants to be saved. The bonds of sisterly devotion stretch across oceans—but what does it take to break them?

Everything Here Is Beautiful is, at its heart, an immigrant story, and a young woman’s quest to find fulfillment and a life unconstrained by her illness. But it’s also an unforgettable, gut-wrenching story of the sacrifices we make to truly love someone—and when loyalty to one’s self must prevail over all.
