In this brilliant debut novel from Roshani Chokshi, the author delivers a tale that is so deeply rooted in mythology and filled with luscious imagery that the reader can only be enchanted and spellbound by this story. THE STAR-TOUCHED QUEEN should be at the top of everyone's to read list.

I think that I need to be honest here. There are a lot of books out recently that have been based in mythology. You know it and so do I. Some are amazing and others leave you wishing there was more. Yet, authors continue to deliver us these stories because we want and love to read them. Now, for a book to stand out among all of the other new releases, that would have to be a special book indeed. THE STAR-TOUCHED QUEEN is such a book.

This is the story of Maya. She is cursed, but doesn't truly understand the meaning of that curse until she becomes a wife to Amar and the queen of Akaran. Her journey to discover herself and her place in the world will take the reader to places that only the myths and lore have brought us before. She will uncover secrets and lies that will lead to her desire to figure out a mystery that could save everyone.

Simply stated, the author delivers a beautiful book to her readers. The story weaves together the true emotions of a young woman struggling to figure out her own strength with the richness of Indian mythology. If you love a good story or are addicted to myths and legends such as myself, this book is truly a must read. I am in awe of the eloquence of Chokshi's writing. It is so impactful that the story is still with me today. Read this book. You will not be sorry.

Audio Book Note: Narrator, Priya Ayyar, brought the character of Maya to life. The story flowed in a way that enhanced the words the author wrote, not taking anything away from this beautiful story. If I have any suggestions for you all, I would say read the book. Then wait a month and listen to it all over again. The story will still captivate you just as it did the first time.

Plot Summary:

Fate and fortune. Power and passion. What does it take to be the queen of a kingdom when you’re only seventeen?

Maya is cursed. With a horoscope that promises a marriage of death and destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something else entirely: Compassion. Protection. Desire…

But Akaran has its own secrets—thousands of locked doors, gardens of glass, and a tree that bears memories instead of fruit. Soon, Maya suspects her life is in danger. Yet who, besides her husband, can she trust? With the fate of the human and Otherworldly realms hanging in the balance, Maya must unravel an ancient mystery that spans reincarnated lives to save those she loves the most…including herself.
