My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A thriller with a good balance of police procedure and psychological suspense.
DARK SATURDAY is one of those books that slowly pulled me in through the humanity of the characters, mystery behind the murders, and tragic effect the murders had on woman convicted. I will be honest with you all, I had a little bit of a difficult time getting into the novel at first. However, once the case started to develop and all the players started interacting the book became a lot more intriguing.
The story opens with psychotherapist Frieda Klein is brought on to review the eighteen-year-old case of Hannah Docherty. I have to say that the best part of the book was uncovering the truth behind Hannah’s story. The depiction of this broken young woman was heartbreaking. As a reader, I couldn’t help but want more for her. Thankfully, Frieda begins to pick away at what has been covered up for so many years. This will give an ending that is completely shocking even to the most avid suspense readers.
Series Note: Having not read any books in the series before this, there are a few elements that were confusing to me. However, I quickly picked up what I needed to through bits and pieces that the authors gave in the story. I don’t believe that you have to have read all the books in the series to like this book, but I certainly don’t think it would hurt to have read them. The Dean backstory is still one that I need to know more about. I guess I have some one-clicking to do.
Reviewer Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and TLC Book Tours in exchange for my honest review.
A decade ago, 18-year-old Hannah Docherty was arrested for the shocking murder of her family. It was an open-and-shut case, and Hannah has been incarcerated in a secure psychiatric hospital ever since.
When psychotherapist Frieda Klein is asked to meet Hannah and give her assessment, she reluctantly agrees. But what she finds horrifies her. Hannah has become a tragic figure, old before her time. And Frieda is haunted by the idea that Hannah might be as much of a victim as her family — that she might, in fact, be innocent.
As Hannah's case takes hold of her, Frieda begins to realize that she's up against someone who will go to any lengths to keep the truth from surfacing — even kill again.
Utterly compelling and enthralling, Dark Saturday speeds readers down a twisting trail of secrets, suspense, and murder.
